Tuna fishing Pedasi

Pedasi and the coast around Playa Venau is one of the most prolific fishing spots I have ever been too….. Fact.

I hired a car from Panama City Airport and set off on the 5 hour drive first to Playa Venau for a surf and then back to Pedasi to charter a boat for a few days.

The surf in Playa was good without being spectacular but the nightlife is excellent there are a numbe of bars and a club on the seafront in a really relaxed village. But this all plays second fiddle to the fishing on this epic piece of coastline,

The peninsular is about as far south as you can get in Panama, and as a result its gets fish, whales, sharks, dolphins, and a plethora of marine species.

We chartered a local commercial fishing boat to take us out from the beach port to first the island just off the marina and further out in search of Dorado. We were were out of luck with the Dorado but did hit into a rich seam of bonito which made for good sport all morning.

We caught about 8 fish mostly on the red and white Rapala but also took a couple on the plastic squid.

However it was the following days trip out beyond the point south west of the marina that produce the best fishing.

Probably the the best days Fishing I have ever had. We rounded the big rock covered in frigates to find yellowfin tuna attacking a ball of bait fish. The place was electric with fish, we saw whales, rays and even a shark break the surface, not to mention turtles, we were buzzing the whole trip.

We paid about 50 dollars for a local fishing boat to take us out and from the pictures below you can see that was money very well spent. Panama should be on the bucket list of every serious fisherman, next time I’m back it will be for Marlin…. watch this space…
